There is a war happening. The war is happening in the spirutual realm unseen by human eyes. It is a battle over the human soul. The enemy “Satan” comes only to steal, kill and destroy. He comes to confuse the truth, because it is the truth that sets us free. In a nutshell, we are defending the truth; furthermore the truth of the Bible (Gods infallible word) and the attack on it.
To clearly see the attack we will go all the way back to the Garden of Eden found in Genesis 3 “The Genesis 3 attack” where it is recorded that Adam and Eve encounter Satan for the first time. Some interesting things take place here and reads as follows.
Genesis 3:1-5
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
There are 3 things at play here. (Highlighted in green)
- Satan has Eve question the Authority of Gods word. (verse 1)
- Satan twists Gods word. (verse 4)
- Satan aims to Deify humanity. (you become gods)(verse 5)
The same attack is being used by Satan on us today and we need to be aware of it.
2 Corinthians 2:11
Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
The attack that we need to defend against is the very same thing that we need to defend against today!
The attack is on the very Word of God itself!
Psalm 11:3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
What is our foundation? It is Gods word! The Psalmist is warning us that we need to defend the foundation, the word of God!
We should never depart from the truth of Gods word.
Proverbs 7:2-3
2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
One of the ways that God’s word is being attacked today is through the theory of evolution and the religion of naturalism. That is the belief that everything we see today is the result of natural causes and chance random processes. This would mean we are one big accident.
I have heard it said that it doesn’t matter if the earth was created by a big bang billions of years ago or that humans evolved over millions of years, as long as we say that God did it that way.
The problem with that statement is that it’s not what God said he did!
This undermines the authority of God’s word.
There is a common misconception that says that it is God versus Science, or you can’t mix God with Science, but after further investigation into the truth, God’s word comes out on top!
The theory of Darwinian evolution and the big bang theory is nothing but a desperate attempt to explain our origins without God, and a poor one at that. (See more about Evolution on this website)
God is the Authority and the Bible can be trusted!
We must remember that all reasoning is circular and must appeal to an authority. In reality, our authority can be one of two things, it’s either God’s word or man’s word.
The better we understand the attack of our time, the better the position we are in to give an apologetic or defense. We need to be like the sons of Issachar.
1 Chronicle 12:32
And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times
We need to understand the times we live in and the attacks being used today.
Millions of children are being taught evolution (that man evolved from ape like creatures millions of years) at school, this is not a neutral position. It is the result of man defining truth and in opposition to the word of God.
This type of thinking also leads to the conclusion that we are just animals, having no real absolute moral standard.
We are not “just animals”, the Bible declares that man is created in God’s image.
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
If people fail to acknowledge God and His word there are serious consequences.
2 Thes 2:11
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
Many are saying that the flood of Noahs day is a myth but the Bible says.
2 Peter 3
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
Summary: It’s either God’s word or man’s word.
If we can remember the three ways that the enemy attacks we can easily see through the lies of the enemy (satan) and if we learn to use God’s word as our authority we can give a logical reasoned defense and stand firm in the truth.
